Frequently Asked Questions

Why is MBS the right choice for my group?
MBS has been serving hospital-based physicians exclusively for more than 45 years. You gain the strength and experience of a large company, with the personal service you want and need.
Will I lose money in a transition?
No. MBS has a proven track record of successful transitions. Under some circumstances, we will even pledge our fee against your practice enduring a cash lag. Ask us for a list of your peers who recently went through a transition to MBS.
I do my own billing. How can you do all the billing and collecting we do today for so much less than it costs us to do the exact same work in-house?
The answer is simple: scaling and technology. Scaling allows us to best utilize resources for maximum results. Our technology is state-of-the-art and our staff is trained to maximize return for our clients. Volume allows us a cost structure that a smaller operation cannot realize.
I have an investment in my own billing office. What happens to my existing employees, office and equipment?
MBS is always looking for talented people. Our first choice is to hire trusted members of your staff. If circumstances warrant, we may take over your current office and equipment.
How do I know you will do what you claim to do?
How do your peers and referring physicians know you will perform every day with the quality that earned you your current position? Because we have a history of quality performance, a consistency in what we deliver, and integrity in our service delivery. First hand accounts offer the best testimony. We welcome you to ask any of our clients as to their satisfaction.
Who will be my customer representative?
MBS does not place a representative between our service and your practice. Your principal contact will always be with one of the owners of the company, who is accountable for results and empowered to make changes and promises.
Who owns MBS?
Since its founding by Paul J. Herald in 1960, the Herald family remains the exclusive owners of MBS. Unlike national companies who answer to stockholders and boards of directors, and firms owned by other physicians in your specialty, we answer to but one master -- you.
I have a large practice. Can you handle a group our size?
Larger practices are the foundation of our business. The average practice we work with has 14 members; many client groups have in excess of 20 members.
Are you HIPAA compliant?
MBS so strongly believes in compliance that we employ a full time Chief Compliance Officer, and employ a staff of professionals who do nothing but auditing and monitoring. Our compliance program exceeds the expectations set forth by the OIG in its guidance document for medical billing companies. In addition, we are consistently ahead of the curve in electronic filing and remittance processing in the new HIPAA formats.
Do you use electronic downloads from hospitals?
We seek to establish relationships with the professionals in your hospital and department to ensure a quality flow of information needed to complete the professional billing cycles. 99 percent of the time this leads to the creation of electronic information exchange between us. Keep in mind that we never exclusively utilize electronic downloads as our source of billing information.
